About the Presenter: John Bowers
John has been a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) for the past 9 years. During that time, John has trained and worked with Utah Juvenile Probation, Utah Juvenile Justice Services, Private Probation Services, Headstart and various school districts. John is originally from Colorado where he worked for the Division of Probation Services and during that time, he helped implement MI training to a multi agency statewide effort. He currently resides in Utah where he works for the Administrative Office of the Courts as an Education Coordinator.
About the Training:
During this introductory course, participants will learn the fundamentals of Motivational Interviewing. This includes concepts like Stages of Change, Spirit of MI, the Four Processes of MI, Change talk, Sustain Talk and Discord. Participants will also learn how to use O.A.R.S in a MI setting. This course is designed to be very interactive with a focus on skill practice.
