Dr. Chris Martin is an Assistant Professor at St. Ambrose University’s School of Social Work. She received both her MSW and PhD from the University of Iowa School of Social Work. Her research area includes the study of the influence of implicit racial bias on decision making and how this contributes to the disproportionate representation of African Americans in special education. She hopes to continue examining the effects of bias on decision making across social work settings and in multiple systems experiencing overrepresentation.
Day 1: Implicit Racial Bias
Objective: Able to identify how implicit bias is formed and how it might affect decision making
Day 2: White Supremacy
Objective: Understand what aspects of dominant culture are actually tenets of white supremacy and how to work to dismantle these tenets and support all racial and ethnic identities
Day 3: Anti-Racism
Objective: Learn how to change attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs to support anti-racist ideals through intrapersonal, interpersonal, community, and macro means of change
