It’s difficult for school, law enforcement, medical and other professionals who work with youth to keep up with the changing world of drugs and alcohol. And if you don’t understand the culture, you won’t see it at all.
Target Audience: Educators, Prevention Providers, Coalition Members, Law Enforcement, Probation Officers, School Administration, Treatment Providers, Nurses, Healthcare Workers, and Counselors.
Attendees of the High in Plain Sight class, will be able to:
- Quickly identify alcohol and drug use and abuse indicators of possible at-risk individuals, through products, stash compartments, clothing brands, lingo, music lyrics, etc.
- Recognize the current drug culture at first observation or interview, including Delta 8 and 10
- Identify concealment methods for alcohol and drugs in the classroom or workplace, including vaping
- Provide education for improved policy and procedures regarding current alcohol and drug abuse prevention and intervention
- Recognize area specific alcohol and drug abuse information and content in relations to trends, culture and identifiers
Speaker:
Officer Jermaine Galloway, known as the “Tall Cop”, is a nationally and internationally recognized presenter, national award winner and resource for those involved with prevention, education, treatment and enforcement. Officer Galloway began his law enforcement career in Idaho in 1997 and has more than 21 years experience in alcohol and drug education, enforcement and prevention. As a full time trainer, Officer Galloway currently dedicates thousands of hours to community scans, research and substance abuse identification in large and rural communities across the country.

St. Ambrose University is providing Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for Social Work (3 CEUs) and Nursing (3.5 CEUs). The Iowa Board of Certification has approved 3.25 CEUs for Alcohol and Drug Specific.
