Description: You will learn personal safety practices to follow when going to and from work, workplace safety and the use of pepper spray.
Description: Better understand how to manage your sympathetic nervous system’s response to escalation to help de-escalate a situation. Topics covered; language, tone, non-judgmental statements, verbal and physical cues of escalation and protective stance.
Cpl. Brandon Bauer: Provider Home Visitation Safety—Cpl. Bauer has served with the Dubuque Police Department (DPD) since 2008. During his tenure with the DPD Cpl. Bauer has served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, DPD Honor Guard, Patrol Investigator as member of the Neighborhood Response Team, Community Oriented Police Officer, Marksmen/Observer on the Rifle Team, Firearms Instructor, Gang Intelligence Coordinator, and is a member of the Midwest Gang Investigators Association. Cpl. Bauer has investigated and testified on numerous gang related crimes in state and federal jurisdictions
Lt. Joe Messerich: Gang Awareness—Crime Prevention/Public Information Officer of the Dubuque Police Department.
Dawn Knutson: Verbal De-escalation—Dawn works as a Family Advocate for Scott County Kids in Davenport, Iowa. Dawn is registered nurse with experience working in mental health. As Family Advocate, Dawn provides resource information to families with youth with mental health concerns, facilitates a Family Panel, Provider Panel, and provides community education on mental health related issues.
