I believe the cuts in budgets have made a difficult situation even more difficult. The family unit itself looks much different therefore we as a community need to help reach those children in need and guide them to appropriate resources, services and supports. .

The SOC wraps services around children’s individual needs and builds on the child and family’s natural strengths with respect to diversity. The SOC helps us coordinate community resources and respond in a timely, efficient and effective manner with the right amount of assistance at the right time. The SOC is preventative and trauma informed. All children deserve to grow up in a SAFE community.

As OT that worked on the adolescent psychiatric unit, I was deeply saddened to learn the unit was closing. Financial limitations do not make the need for services disappear. This project is wonderful and brings a sense of hope back to the community for our families.

Working with at-risk children and families has made me acutely aware of the mental health gaps and delays in service.
